i b h e o w m i n V n S t o o h r p fi a A e t r A a a V he advances in cardiac electrophysiology during 2003 will e divided into three basic categories: mechanisms, genetics, nd therapy, the latter including ablation, devices, drugs, and unique pacing application in heart failure. This brief ummary is not a comprehensive review article, and cannot o justice to all the efforts and many publications by utstanding clinical and basic investigators. To those whose ork is not mentioned, I apologize in advance. I have imited most references to 2003, with occasional exceptions.

Evaluation of Patient's Dose and Estimate of Cancer Risk in Electrophysiology Studies and Ablation in Cath Lab Center of Afshar Hospital, Yazd, Iran

Introduction: Today electrophysiology studies and ablation have been developed due to increasing arrhythmias disorder of heart. In these diagnostic – treatments methods, the use of fluoroscopy can be causes patient radiation dose, therefore evaluation of patient's absorbed dose is necessary to protection of the radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the absorbed dose in patients under...

Novel frameshift mutation in the KCNQ1 gene responsible for Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome

Objective(s): Jervell and Lange–Nielsen syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in KCNQ1 or KCNE1 genes. The disease is characterized by sensorineural hearing loss and long QT syndrome. Methods: Here we present a 3.5-year-old female patient, an offspring of consanguineous marriage, who had a history of recurrent syncope and congenital sensorineural deafness. The patient ...

Therapeutic effects of ellagic acid on memory, hippocampus electrophysiology deficits, and elevated TNF-α level in brain due to experimental traumatic brain injury

Objective(s): Cognitive defects such as learning and memory impairment are amongst the most repetitious sequelae after sever and moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI). It was suggested that ellagic acid (EA), an innate phenol product, display neuroprotective properties against oxidative and inflammatory damages after brain injury. The object of the current study was therapeutic properties of EA...

Identification of a Novel KCNQ1 Frameshift Mutation and Review of the Literature among Iranian Long QT Families

Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is characterized by the prolongation of QT interval, which results in syncope and sudden cardiac death in young people. KCNQ1 is the most common gene responsible for this syndrome. Methods: Molecular investigation was performed by DNA Sanger sequencing in Iranian families with a history of syncope. In silico examinations were performed for predicting the path...
